October 25, 2026 2:30 pm Mainstage I Psalms and A Vision Unfolding

The Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale opens its season with a program that explores the power of sacred texts, reflection, and social connection.
The first half features three compelling settings of the Psalms: an unaccompanied interpretation of Psalms 69 and 71 by Allen Koepke, along with organ-accompanied settings of Psalm 148 by Gustav Holst and Psalm 47 by John Rutter.
The second half features Kyle Pederson’s A Vision Unfolding, a five-movement work inspired by themes of social justice, compassion, and hope. With spoken text by poet Shanelle Gabriel, the piece combines choral music with violin, trumpet, and drums to create a powerful and thought-provoking musical experience.

This annual collaboration features beloved Christmas carol settings by John Rutter, his magnificent setting of the Te Deum, and a spectacular finale featuring Handel’s iconic Hallelujah Chorus.
**A Silent Auction (Raffle) will be held in the First Lutheran Church lobby before the concert and during intermission.

First Lutheran Church, Cedar RapidsExperience one of the most profound and beloved works in the choral repertoire—Johannes Brahms’ A German Requiem.
Unlike the traditional Catholic Requiem Mass, Brahms created his work using carefully selected passages from Scripture that focus on comfort, hope, and remembrance. The Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale will perform the Requiem in English, accompanied by Brahms’ own four-hand piano arrangement of the orchestral score, performed by pianists Marita and Brett Wolgast.
This intimate and powerful performance offers audiences a deeply moving reflection on life, loss, and consolation.

This entertaining concert will feature a wide variety of musical genres, including Gospel, Broadway favorites, Spirituals, and a special appearance by the Chorale’s own jazz ensemble, Jazz, Inc.
Celebrate the diversity, creativity, and excitement of the performing arts with an unforgettable evening of music.
