KARLA GOETTEL
Karla Goettel, Soprano, has had a performance career of extraordinary range. An Iowa native, she has toured the United States, singing opera, musical theatre, orchestra concerts and recitals.
She graduated from the University of Iowa magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and was selected as an apprentice with Des Moines Metro Opera.
Career highlights include the roles of The Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and the role of Adele in Die Fledermaus with the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre. She has been a guest soloist with the Omaha, Mankato, Clinton, Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Northwest Iowa and Dubuque Symphony Orchestras as well as numerous appearances with the Cedar Rapids Symphony/Orchestra Iowa in their Classical, Pops and Chamber concerts. Karla held a 12-week contract with Old Creamery Theatre and sang 42 performances of Tintypes with the company. She has also been a frequent guest with Liars Theatre in Marion, Iowa. Many of those performances were broadcast on Iowa Public Television. Additionally, she has been a guest soloist with the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale and the Waterloo Metropolitan Chorale.
Recitals include a four-city tour of Florida’s east coast with Maestro Paul Csonka of the Palm Beach Opera at the piano, ending at the famed Flagler Museum in Palm Beach. Karla premiered the vocal works of Julian Bern in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Norfolk, Virginia and Denver, Colorado. Other recitals include Wheeling, West Virginia, repeat engagements in Fort Smith Arkansas, a four-city tour of Ohio, Boulder, Colorado and over 65 communities in Iowa. Karla was a long-time Iowa Arts Council Touring Artist and Artist-in-the-Schools. She was a national finalist in the National Opera Association Auditions in Dallas, Texas and received a grant from the Young Artist Development Fund in Cleveland, Ohio. Karla also was selected to perform for the National Governors Convention at the Iowa State Capitol.
In addition to performing, Karla has been a long-time voice teacher. Her students have been frequent winners of state, regional and national competitions and many former students are singing professionally on Broadway and in opera companies around the world.
